Supply Chain Innovation
Alberta is solidifying its position as a key player in the North American food supply
chain, attracting major investments from global leaders like NewCold, a world leader in
advanced food logistics.
NewCold is constructing a $222 million facility in Coaldale, Alberta, two and a half
hours southeast of Calgary. Choosing Coaldale for its newest warehouse highlights
Alberta’s strategic position in the agri-food processing industry, thanks to the town’s
proximity to the Canada-United States border, a major highway and the Calgary
International Airport, providing seamless access to domestic and international markets.
Scheduled to open in spring 2025, the facility will create 50 permanent jobs and
further position Alberta as a hub for supply chain innovation.

New Heights
Whitecourt Airport has an upgrade on its horizon. Two hours northwest of
Edmonton, the airport is vital to the province, servicing oil and gas workers, medical
services and accommodating a firebase for aircraft monitoring and fighting wildfires.
With over $78,000 in grant funding from the Government of Alberta, Whitecourt
Airport is conducting a study to explore its commercial potential and attract
development. Similar funding initiatives are also supporting expansion studies at other
regional airports, including Cold Lake, Grande Prairie and High Level.
By investing in regional airports, the Government of Alberta is improving
connectivity across the province, bringing new commercial opportunities to smaller
cities and ensuring the province’s infrastructure meets the demands of its
future growth.

THE FAST TRACK
Alberta is exploring a transformative step in transportation with the proposed
high-speed rail line connecting Edmonton and Calgary, spearheaded by the Prairie
Link Rail Partnership. The company initiated a public-private partnership proposal
and the province is undertaking a feasibility study to assess the project.
The proposed train line would make a stop in Red Deer, Alberta’s third-largest
city, and include a line to popular tourist destinations Banff and Canmore, bringing
high speed rail to nearly 3 million Albertans. Alberta’s population is growing rapidly,
with the province projecting a population of 7.1 million by 2051.
Beyond connectivity, the project is expected to drive economic growth, support
tourism and provide a faster, more sustainable alternative to road travel. While the
route has yet to be determined, the announcement has Albertans buzzing with
excitement for the possibilities of a more connected province.
