TRANSPORTATION
& LOGISTICS
Alberta is connected — bringing the province’s industries to the
world. Port Alberta connects the Edmonton Metropolitan Region
with the world as a Foreign Trade Zone, exporting products by air,
road, sea, pipeline and rail, reaching foreign markets with direct access to
the Port of Prince Rupert and the Port of Vancouver, on the Pacific Coast.
The transportation and warehousing industry received $9.94 billion
in capital investment in 2023 and contributes over $14 billion to the
province’s GDP. It also accounts for six per cent of Alberta’s workforce.
Innovations in drone technology, artificial intelligence (AI) and robotics
are driving the industry forward. Edmonton International Airport is the
first in Canada to launch commercial drone cargo delivery trials, while
Calgary-based robotics firm Attabotics is transforming supply chains with
machine learning and robotic storage and retrieval systems.
Alberta transportation and logistics is pioneering new ways to move
goods, bringing industry into the future.
Alberta is on the move, with a cohesive,
interconnected transportation network
that positions it as a prime logistics hub in
North America. Alberta seamlessly connects
people and goods worldwide with two
major Foreign Trade Zones and bustling
international airports. NewCold, a global
leader in automated cold chain logistics,
recently committed $222 million to expand
in Coaldale, creating a food storage facility
that strengthens Alberta’s role as Canada’s
agri-food corridor. Supported by Invest
Alberta and partners, projects like NewCold
will create jobs, enhance rail connectivity,
and reinforce Alberta’s position as a hub for
secure, efficient supply chains that meet the
demands of tomorrow.
