OPEN FOR
BUSINESSAlberta’s economy
continues to grow
Alberta might be known for its high quality beef and
massive oil and gas sector, but its profile is growing
in technology, manufacturing and energy innovation,
among other sectors. As Alberta’s population grows,
local municipalities alongside the business community are
responding — with collaborative efforts to attract business and
scale up local economies.
Supporting the province’s growth are Alberta’s Regional
Economic Development Alliances (REDAs), nonprofit
partnerships uniting municipalities and stakeholders to
bolster business and encourage investment in the province.
By fostering collaboration and investing in innovation,
REDAs are attracting companies and investors to all
corners of the province.

Strategic Investment
Attraction in Northwest
Alberta: Bold Steps Forward
THE REGIONAL ECONOMIC
Development Initiative (REDI)
is attracting investments to the
membership communities of Northwest
Alberta. By leveraging our strengths in
the forestry, energy and agricultural
sectors, REDI is positioning the region as
an economic powerhouse with unique
competitive advantages.
REDI creates clear value propositions
that highlight why Northwest Alberta
stands out and has recently completed
site selection documents for 11 sites
across member communities. These
documents detail distinctive attributes
of each site, such as proximity to
transportation nodes, energy supply or
raw material sources, highlighting what
makes these sites highly attractive to
potential investors.
REDI recently completed community
profiles to tell the story of the region
to investors, ensuring the unique
characteristics of every locale are
showcased. In 2024, REDI developed
comprehensive marketing materials
that promote the distinct features of
each community, including population
demographics, workforce breakdowns
and key employment industries.
These materials inform and
attract investors by providing a
clear and detailed picture of the
opportunities available.
To further enhance
investment attraction, REDI has
initiated customized investor
tours of the region. These tours
are tailored to highlight existing
complementary industries,
current feedstock data, new
infrastructure and the economic
benefits and available incentives.
During the tours, investors meet
with existing business owners,
councillors and landowners,
who provide them with an
in-depth understanding of the
region’s potential.
The success of REDI’s
strategy is underpinned by
the collaboration between our
municipal members, planning and
development staff, and training
programs. This cooperative effort
ensures that all stakeholders are
aligned and working toward common
goals. The vastness of the region
necessitates thorough planning and
coordination, and REDI’s approach
ensures that these tours are
comprehensive and informative.
REDI’s strategic plan is a
testament to our commitment to
fostering economic growth and
attracting investment to Northwest
Alberta. By leveraging regional
strengths and ensuring detailed
and accurate representation of our
communities, we are creating an
attractive and compelling proposition
for investors. REDI’s initiatives not
only highlight the region’s potential
but also set the stage for sustainable
economic development and prosperity.
