In 2024, Economic Developers Alberta (EDA) celebrates its 50th anniversary. This significant milestone marks a half-century of
our steadfast commitment to fostering growth, empowering communities and helping to drive Alberta's economic success. As the exclusive professional organization for economic developers in the province, EDA is renowned for possessing the 'playbook' for economic development leaving an enduring impact on Alberta's prosperity.
Founded in 1974 by a gathering of 32 visionaries, EDA's initial purpose was crystal clear — to foster collaboration among economic developers in Alberta. Since its inception,
our membership has grown significantly,
now comprising over 350 professionals from various sectors. Built on our original purpose, our mandate has evolved to encompass award-winning programs, world-class events and cutting-edge training initiatives. These
are specifically crafted to equip not only our members but all economic development professionals and leaders, empowering
them to create thriving communities. Our 50-year legacy stands as a testament to the combined efforts of our members, partners and stakeholders who are rolling up their sleeves
in big cities and small towns, in every corner of Alberta, working collaboratively to contribute to the ongoing progress of the province.
Alberta boasts a thriving and diverse economy, characterized by modern, secure cities and breathtaking landscapes. It stands out as one of the most affordable provinces in Canada, offering high average wages coupled with the country's lowest income tax brackets. The workforce is dynamic, hosting the youngest population in Canada, and the highest number of post-secondary educated workers. Notably, Calgary holds the distinction of being the most liveable city in North America (ranking 7th globally), while Edmonton stands out as the
most affordable city in Canada. Alberta's allure also lies in its vast, open spaces
and striking contrasts: from the majestic Rocky Mountains and bountiful prairies to captivating desert badlands, lush forests, glaciers and over 600 lakes; the province's diversity invites a lifetime of exploration.
For a decade, this magazine, the official publication of Economic Developers Alberta, has been a platform to showcase Alberta’s diverse industries, vibrant communities and innovative businesses across all regions.
