As of the most recent count, there are more than 270,000 students enrolled in post-secondary institutions across Alberta. And that number is expected to grow, as schools
such as Edmonton’s MacEwan University and NorQuest College have made public their ambitious expansion plans. Those two schools, located in the downtown of the Alberta capital, expect to host more than 30,000 students in the core by 2030.
The University of Alberta is a major research university and has admitted more than 5,000 international students in 2022, and has agreements in place with institutions in 47 countries. The University of Calgary has more than 3,000 international students, hailing from 142 countries.
Alberta’s four comprehensive academic research universities
— the University of Alberta, University of Calgary, University of Lethbridge and Athabasca University — received over $1 billion in sponsored research revenue in 2020-2021.
Alberta is home to 26 publicly funded post-secondary institutions and more than 50 private career colleges — our population is educated, and ready to work.
