There is lots to love about Alberta. It is the fourth-most populous province in Canada, and is more than 1.5 times the size of the state of California. With all that space, there is now nearly 28,000 square
kilometres of protected area in the province, with five national parks and 75 provincial parks.
Alberta also enjoys the most sunny days in Canada, with up to 18 hours of daylight in the summer and over 312 days of sunshine in a year. There are 45 First Nations in Alberta and eight Métis settlements, many with their own distinct cultures and languages. This adds to the cultural richness of the province, and celebrates the roots of Indigenous ancestry.
The province boasts the highest median after-tax income in Canada. In 2020, families earned a median after-tax income of $104,000, almost $12,000 more than the Canadian average. And Alberta has no health- care premiums or provincial sales tax. In 2023, Economist Intelligence Unit named Calgary the seventh most liveable city in the world (tied with Zurich, Switzerland).
And — potentially the best part — you can own four homes in Edmonton, Alberta’s capital city, for the same price as one home in Vancouver.
