The Canadian Rockies. That’s what people who live outside of Alberta first think about when they’re asked about this province’s tourist attractions. And that’s fair — we’re home to some of the
most stunning mountain scenery the world has to offer.
But Alberta has a lot more to offer than mountain parks. We’re home to two major cities, Edmonton and Calgary, that offer festivals, theatre, great restaurants and so many more things to do. From the famous Calgary Stampede to Edmonton’s Folk Music Festival, we host destination events that attract visitors from all over the world.
Alberta is expanding its Indigenous Tourism sector, with Travel Alberta providing $6 million in support over three years to Indigenous Tourism Alberta, which promotes authentic Indigenous experiences in the province.
Alberta is home to not one, but two, internationally recognized dinosaur museums, and we’re home to many active digs. We have badlands and towns that take you back to the Old West.
And, over the past decade, we’ve seen an explosion in craft breweries and distilleries. Just as you’d tour France or California for the wine, we encourage you to sample the best of our grains — from outstanding craft beers to whiskeys that stand up to the top-rated ones that Scotland, Japan or Kentucky have to offer.
By 2022, Alberta’s tourist numbers had recovered to match pre- COVID visitor levels. Travel Alberta states that Alberta’s tourism- related GDP was at $8.4 billion in 2022.
Come for the mountains, stay for the entire Alberta experience.
