CREATIVE INDUSTRIES & CULTURE
Alberta has rich natural resources, and creative ones too. With over 880,000 square kilometres of diverse landscapes, including mountains, foothills, forests and grasslands, Alberta has the vista
or backdrop for any creative story, plus post-production facilities, sound stages and more to bring the vision to the screen.
The province served as the location for the first season of The Last of Us, which is considered the largest production ever filmed in Canada. It earned numerous accolades, and is now the most-watched show in the history of HBO Max in Europe and Latin America.
Through Alberta’s investments in film and television, including $225 million in film and television tax credits for 2024-2025, Alberta aims to grow the sector by $1.5 billion over the next 10 years.
Alberta is also home to video-game giants, nationally and internationally recognized dance companies — and to famous artists, musicians, authors and so much more. The creative industry contributes over $5 billion to Alberta’s economy and celebrates the arts, culture and customs of the province, creating cultural artifacts for residents and visitors to enjoy.
