surgeries. Researchers exploring new frontiers in science and
medicine. Across the province, innovators and researchers are
discovering new ways to serve Albertans and the world with innovative
technologies, from new drug compounds and medical devices to
breakthroughs in botany and biochemistry research.
In 2022, Alberta’s life sciences sector generated $2 billion in revenue,
and garnered $588.8 million in capital investments.
Digital health-care innovations are taking patient care into the future.
The province-wide electronic health record system means Alberta has
a strong dataset for artificial intelligence research and utilization in the
health-care system. Organizations like IMPACT, which helps accelerate
clinical trials, and Biohubx, a nonprofit that provides facilities and
expertise for local and global life sciences companies, are having an
impact around the world. In 2023, Alberta Innovates funded 145 digital
health projects across the province.

Building on this foundation, Loblaws -
Shoppers Drug Mart is expanding its network
with 98 new pharmacy care clinics across
the province, bringing essential health-
care services to a growing population. With
support from Invest Alberta and key partners,
Alberta is positioning itself for the future of
life sciences.
