The Greenhouse Effect
Most people associate greenhouses
with fruit and vegetable production.
But they also play an important role in
reforestation and reclamation.
Since 1985, Chinook Greenhouse has
been growing seedlings for reforesta-
tion — and it’s expanding. Located
in the southeastern Alberta city of
Medicine Hat, the company will grow to
800,000 square feet of production area
in 2025.

Investing in Reconciliation
Since 2006, Alberta-Pacific Forest
Industries (Al-Pac) has been recog-
nized for its strong commitment to
Indigenous relations.
In 2024, Al-Pac was awarded its
seventh consecutive Gold certification
from the Partnership Accreditation in
Indigenous Relations (PAIR).
The program highlights Canadian
organizations that are committed to prac-
ticing reconciliation in business. PAIR
Gold recognizes companies that have
excellent management practices, strong
community support, long-term relation-
ship with the Indigenous community and

FORESTRY CAPITAL
In 2024, the Mackenzie Region
was named the Forest Capital of
Canada. The Canadian Institute of
Forestry awards the distinction to
communities that demonstrate a strong
connection to their forests.
The distinction also goes to
communities that prioritize sustainability
in forestry, and Mackenzie Region can

city of Edmonton, emphasizes including

Most of Mackenzie Region’s
landbase is covered in trees, and is home
to some of Alberta’s largest mills —
forestry is a major economic engine for
this northwestern region.
