In the Government of Alberta’s Data Centre
Strategy, Minister Nate Glubish wrote: “Alberta already
leads the country in productivity and economic
prosperity. We have a strong technology economy
which has seen tremendous growth and investment
in recent years, and we are looking ahead to see a
growing secondary economy emerging — one that
will produce new products and services we can’t yet
imagine. This is a generational opportunity with a
narrow window for us to become global leaders.”
With international trips on his docket, Christiaanse
says companies in places like Japan, Korea and Hong
Kong are taking notice of what Alberta can offer
them. And Invest Alberta is doing all it can to diversify
Alberta’s economy and prepare it for the future.
“Invest Alberta was created by the Government
of Alberta four years ago to take us beyond oil and
gas. We’re feeling pretty optimistic about this sector,
because this is a clear case of something being driven
by the client. This is a classic case where the industry
is looking for this type of product or service, and we
can actually answer a need. Whenever you do that,
you can be pretty successful.”
