ability based on the conversation that we had previously on

ensure that our programs are being developed in a way that can
set our graduates up to be successful, but also supporting our
industry partners in being able to hire the talent that they need
for the future.”
Marchand isn’t shy about the role that affordable energy will
likely continue to play in Alberta’s economic story — whether it’s
coming from the rich oil sands up north, the sun-soaked grasslands
down south or the windswept prairies at the province’s heart.
Those inputs position Alberta as a potential hub for industries
ranging from manufacturing to data processing to Bitcoin mining
and everything in between. But possibly even more
important, however, is the province’s tremendous human
resources, particularly in the form of a young, skilled and
stable labour force.
“Having cheaper housing and a younger population
gives a constant labour supply where people are
moving into their first house and having their first kids,
and those employees are not about to uproot and go
elsewhere,” Marchand says. “And so from the firm side
of things, you have conditions already set up that will
attract employees. All that’s really missing is the jobs,
and that’s what they bring.”
