Canada's Premier Food Corridor (CPFC)
is a consortium of economic development professionals working to advance the agri- food sector in southern Alberta through investment attraction and advocacy. CPFC members include Economic Development Lethbridge (the agent for the City of Lethbridge), Lethbridge County, Town of Coaldale, Town of Taber, and the Municipal District of Taber, with support from Chinook Community Futures and SouthGrow. Each municipality serves an individual community while focusing on a greater vision of investment, innovation and growth for the CPFC region. Our boundaries do not define your business, which is why we have taken a collaborative approach to ensure that Canada’s Premier Food Corridor is ready for agri-food development. Together, we offer
a welcoming business environment, strong infrastructure and a skilled workforce.
The region is recognized as hub for food processing with global companies located here including Cavendish Farms, McCain's, PepsiCo, Lantic Inc., Lamb Weston, Agropur, Whole Leaf Ltd., and many others. But it's not just large corporations that find success here — an increasing number of innovative start-ups are in the region. The University
of Lethbridge and Lethbridge College, along with industry associations and private research companies, are actively engaged with businesses to support growth and innovation across the agri-food sector.
The CPFC region's success is due in large part to having some of the best growing conditions and irrigation infrastructure in Canada. With more than 70% of Canada’s irrigated land found in the region, there are more than 900,000 acres of irrigated land in the corridor with an additional 200,000 acres expected to be added in the coming years with the recent investments by the Government of Canada and the Government of Alberta to support upgrades to irrigation infrastructure.
As water efficiencies grow, the irrigation districts in the region will be able to irrigate more land. This increases the amount of high value and specialty crops that can be grown and makes way for new agri-food processing investment.
