LAC LA BICHE COUNTY
ALBERTA’S UP AND
COMING DESTINATION:
Lac La Biche County is investing over $75 million in new infrastructure and improving quality of life
Located only a short drive away from three provincial parks and two provincial recreation areas, Lac La Biche County
is known as a year-round destination for anglers, hunters, and outdoor enthusiasts. Home to Alberta’s only back-country canoe circuit, Lakeland Provincial Park, and Alberta’s only provincial park island, Sir Winston Churchill Provincial Park, the area welcomes thousands of visitors every year.
Lac La Biche County presents a unique and timely opportunity. With numerous capital projects currently underway, the hamlet of Lac La Biche is transforming into Alberta’s next must-see destination. Our population of 8,117 is growing, and with a service area of 27,000, the region is ripe for retail, service sector, tourism/hospitality, commercial and industrial opportunities.
GROWING AS A SPORTS TOURISM DESTINATION
In addition to hosting the 2024 World Archery Field Championships, Lac La Biche County Council recently approved $44.9 million for the Bold Centre Aquatics Facility. The facility will include a lazy river, teaching and leisure pool, a six-lane competition pool, two waterslides, two hot tubs and a Nordic spa. Scheduled to be completed
in early 2026, the facility will enhance residents’ quality of life and strengthen the County’s position as a prime location for sports tourism in northern Alberta.
GROWING AS AN URBAN CENTRE
As an approved Rural Renewal Stream and Rural Entrepreneur Stream community, Lac La Biche is primed for growth
while seeing significant improvements
to infrastructure and quality of life. The
$27 million Main Street Revitalization project is transforming the downtown area block by block over the next two years. Meanwhile, the $7.3 million McArthur Park redevelopment is adding new amenities to benefit residents and visitors.
GROWING AS AN EDUCATION DESTINATION
The Lac La Biche County Law Enforcement Training Centre took a significant leap forward in 2023. With waiting lists growing for the Community Peace Officer Induction Program,
the first ever Bylaw Officer Induction Program was introduced. Training partnerships with government agencies at all levels reached capacity, resulting in a significant investment from the County. Plans for a $2.1 million driving track are being developed to increase emergency vehicle operations training for students from across Canada.
A $175,000 expansion to the local firearms range is planned.
Lac La Biche-based Portage College continues to grow, as it gains more and more traction internationally.
Building on our economic prosperity in oil and gas and agriculture, Lac La Biche County is entering a new era. One we hope you’ll be a part of.
